Independent Living Guidelines

The James Home provides a quiet, structured, and respectful environment for independent living. To ensure safety and comfort for all residents, all house rules must be followed at all times.

Resident guidelines include the following: Behavior & Community 

• Treat all residents, guests, vendors, and program representatives with respect

• No violence, threats, harassment, or disruptive behavior 

• Quiet hours: 10:00pm -  7:00am

 Cleanliness 

•Keep your room clean and organized 

• Weekly room checks will be conducted

• Clean up after yourself in shared/common spaces 

• Complete assigned household chores on schedule

•Clean up after cooking and food preparation

• Do not leave dishes, food, or trash in common areas

Residents are responsible for cleaning up spills, grease, and cooking messes immediately.

• Personal belongings must not be stored in common areas

• No food left out in rooms 

• Take trash out regularly 

• Complete assigned chores and housekeeping responsibilities

• Clean up after cooking and food preparation

• Respect shared living spaces

• Maintain personal room cleanliness

• Follow house rules and program expectations

• Participate in maintaining a safe and respectful household

• No overnight guests

• Residents are responsible for the behavior of their guests

• Visitors must respect house rules

Safety 

• No smoking inside the home 

• No candles, space heaters, or open flames 

• Keep exits and walkways clear 

•Smoking permitted only in designated outdoor areas

Prohibited Items & Activities

• Drugs, alcohol, or drug/alcohol paraphernalia 

• Weapons of any kind 

• Pets 

Payments 

• Rent must be paid on time 

• Late fees apply 

• No proration for early move-outs 

Respect The Home 

This is shared housing, not temporary shelter. Residents are expected to maintain the property and follow all guidelines to remain in good standing.
